About Tae
Tae Chong serves as Manager of Social Enterprise and Workforce Development for Catholic Charities of Maine. Tae has twenty-five years of experience working with diverse populations in our state. As an educator, advocate, policy maker, social service provider, and business advisor, he has fought hard to make a better city for all. He was named one of “Maine’s 50 Most Influential People” by Maine Magazine, in 2017. He has been featured in Maine Biz and Maine Magazine and he was a speaker at MaineLive and TEDxDirigo. He attended the Obama administration’s “White House Conference on Retaining and Recruiting Immigrant and Refugee Knowledge Workers.” Tae has also held leadership positions, serving as co-chair of the Refugee Advisory Council for Maine’s DHHS, and as board member of NAACP, LULAC, Asian American Heritage Foundation, Friends of Portland Adult Education, and United Way’s Children Leadership Council. He served as the chair of Portland’s CDBG Committee for four years. Tae was the first publicly elected Asian American to the Portland School Committee
Currently, Tae is a board member of the University of Southern Maine’s School of Business, the Cooperative Development Institute, and Greater Portland Family Promise.
Tae is a long-time resident of Portland. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and a Master’s in Business Administration from the University of Southern Maine. He is married to Susan, a public special education school social worker, and he has two daughters who attend public school in Portland. Tae is committed to representing the diverse and complex needs of District 3 through common sense and common ground.
